Asquith’s history

Collection

Asquith, about 55 kilometres west of Saskatoon, was established in the early 1900s on land first settled by Ontario pioneers Andrew and Jennet Mather. The Mathers were among the town's founding families, and they ran a general store. For a time the store also served as a gathering place for church services, before a proper building was put up. The town grew up quickly around their homestead, and it became a village in December 1907.
